Our Story
NorthStar Technology Group was founded in 2000 by Ken Satkunam with a straightforward premise: organizations that handle sensitive data deserve an IT partner who treats their security and compliance obligations as seriously as they do.
What started as a single-office IT services firm in Fargo, North Dakota has grown through three strategic acquisitions and sustained organic growth into a national managed IT and cybersecurity practice. Today, NorthStar serves healthcare providers, DoD contractors, financial institutions, and law firms from offices in Fargo, Huntsville, Alabama, and Folsom, California.
The industries we serve are not chosen at random. Healthcare organizations face HIPAA audits and ransomware threats that directly impact patient safety. Ken has spent over 25 years in IT leadership, serving in roles from technical support to CIO for organizations as large as 23,000 employees. He founded NorthStar Technology Group in 2000 to help regulated organizations build secure, compliant, and operationally resilient technology environments.
Ken holds the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) credential from ISACA and is the co-author of the Amazon best-seller Cyber Attack Prevention. He has been quoted in industry publications including eWeek and DM News, and is a frequent speaker on cybersecurity, compliance, and AI adoption for regulated industries.
